Paul Golden is a retired nephrologist who practised medicine in Modesto, California, for approximately 35 years. Since retiring in 2013, he has written about bipolar disorder and worked in mental-health advocacy, including mentoring medical students during psychiatry rotations. [3]
Career and work
Golden earned his undergraduate degree at Yale University and his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine. He completed an internal-medicine residency at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by a nephrology fellowship at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. [1]
He became one of the first practising nephrologists in Modesto, California, and spent about 35 years in nephrology before retiring from medical practice in 2013. After retirement, Golden wrote about mental illness, including the memoir Bipolar MD: My Life as a Physician with Bipolar Disorder, and became involved in mental-health advocacy and mentoring medical students.
